Love Wood

About

Looks like we have something in common, we both love wood.
My name is Chris and like most people in the woodworking trade I started learning and building projects for my home. I set up a nice shop downstairs with dust collection and lots of power tools. I made the shop cabinets first to get my feet wet before I built any of the good stuff for the living area of the home. I would construct my projects after work and on weekends. I sacrificed lots of personal time building sweat equity. I was always interested in construction and learning how to do things for myself. After 12 years or so working for the house, the family decided to leave CT and head west. It wasn't all cabinets and islands for 12 years. I put in floors, ran wires, plumbing, trim, yard-work. In 2013 we ended up in Phoenix/Scottsdale area for 3 years. We enjoyed the area very much and were getting used to the heat and loving no more snow shoveling. We left AZ for Miami in 2015  to pursue a different job opportunity for the wife. We left Miami in 2018 for our forever home here in Summerville, SC. Life is great here.

The woodworking itch has returned and I am taking my talents online. I will be making small furniture items for sale here on this website and by commission.
Below are pics of the CT house projects I made.

Sapele Wood

SAPELE - I like to use Sapele for primarily Outdoor Carved Signs and most Interior Signs because it stands up to the elements better than softwoods and it carves very well on the CNC. It is naturally dark/reddish in color so no additional stain is required. Aspects of the carving can be highlighted with color which can create many different appearances.  The sign receives a protective clear coat suitable for indoor or outdoor. It can definitely be used for indoor signs if that is your desired look.

Maple Wood

Maple Wood is a lighter colored wood that can be left natural in its color or can be stained. I use a hard maple for sign carving. This is used primarily for indoor signs as is not very rot resistant. It can be used outdoors in a protected area and with an outdoor coating.
